Hi Guys,
I have picked up on the Altruism v Bravery debate which has helped to crystallize my thoughts. Altruism defined in the Macquarie dictionary is "the principle or practice of seeking the welfare of others (opposed to egoism)". I don't believe that this suits our purpose. I believe that we are looking to acknowledge individuals that exhibit bravery in a number of areas including:
Human rights
Social Justice
The Environment
Democracy
Ultimately I believe that our greater goal is to create a national community network of like minded people, where we can identify, encourage and support these brave individuals. In the end the only way that our freedom can survive is to meet the fear based cabal of politics and mainstream media head on. It is going to take an almighty effort to bring about a shift in Australian consciousness required to save the day but I don't want to die wondering "if only I had"?
As Mao once said "the march of 1000 miles begins with the taking of the first step".
Let this be our first step.

Some good points .........
I agree that words like altruism, compassion, equanimity etc are
fundamental to this cause and in a sense a given. I believe that the
success of any initiative is to have a single clear purpose which can be
underpinned by secondary purposes.
The question then becomes what exactly are we looking to
acknowledge/encourage/promote, is it not brave individuals who are
prepared to stand up and have a go?
Once we know who they are, we can then apply other agreed criteria
against their efforts to see who gets our vote for ........
Cheers
Andrew
