Subject: [Civic-Courage] Music needed for 'Turtle' type event??
Send reply to: Civic-Courage@yahoogroups.com
HI CCs,
Being an ex-muso, I tend to think that a ?Turtle? event needs at least some music and comedy.
My feeling is an event such as this needs to be a heart-opening celebration of courage!!
See below for an interesting-sounding choir...to keep on file ;-) Choirs

Hi CCs,
I hear what Tim is saying, but have to say that the original juice for me about this idea was the issue that our freedom of speech is being eroded on a daily basis. At the rate we are going, in 5 or 10 years time, we will barely have any rights left. Already they are being seriously eroded in the work sphere, and health , and obviously in politics.
Big Brother is here, and I don?t like it! As Della says, to speak up about this, is a profoundly political act. And to acknowledge people ( in whatever way we end up with) is an incredible way to foster support for those who have the courage to be on the firing line...it gets pretty lonely and thankless out there.
I agree that a one-off awards night may not have the most lasting effect, but it might depend on what time and resources are available from the group to administer anything more on-going...who knows??
Basically for me, if its not political and about doing something about the erosion of human rights, then I?m not interested ;-)
Cheers,
Frances Amaroux

Hey Philip,
glad you are so willing to support the importance of women's contributions.
Have you not seen my 2 suggestions for women?? Eve Hilary... a hero if ever there was one!!!
and Caroline de Costa....both in the health care industry....important industries for women.
I love your idea for finding ways to encourage heroism in various areas.
And re your list of possible reasons for bias....yes, to all your suggestions.
And yes it is incredibly important for women to be equally recognised for their usually unnoticed contributions...or we will continue to perpetrate the same ?Dominator? paradigm that informs our ?anti-heroes?.
Cheers,
Frances

Fear or love is the choice. Perhaps a shift is what’s 'needed' for us to begin again. To take 'what works' from a rapidly disintegrating 'what doesn't' and rise to our full potential as connected earth humans.
Andrew Parker
"As a highly connected global society, we're moving rapidly toward having to make important choices that will affect our present security and the lives of future generations. The world's problems could get worse before they get better. But the very challenges of this time period also present opportunities for a significant shift in human consciousness."
